White Fungus: A deadly Infection

What is White Fungus? 

White fungus is a fungal infection where there is form of whitish membrane or discharge caused by candida group of organism . White fungus is a fungal infection called candidiasis.

It can caused by the unsterile use of oxygen cylinders or the overuse of steroids. 

After black fungus infection, now a white fungus infection surface in Patna, Bihar. According to several media reports it is even more deadlier than Black Fungus. 

From earlier reports, what we know is, unlike the black fungus whose symptoms are visible to us (like..black crust like formation,one sided swelling etc. ) , a White fungus infection, may only be traced by conducting an HRCT (High Resolution computed tomography)  or equivalent test. 

For any fungal infection spread in recent time, we can easily observe that peoples with multiple disease, weaker immunity, or patients using steroids have higher chances of getting into it. 

How it is different from Black Fungus?

 If we compare Black and White fungus it was found that White Fungus is more hazardous than Black Fungus. It's attack and the way it spreads causes huge damage to vital human organs - It is capable of infecting the brain, respiratory organs, digestive tract, kidneys and even private parts. 

It's quite different from Black fungus, we can physically see  and confirm the symptoms of black fungus but not in the case of white fungus. It's symptoms are quite similar to that of COVID-19 thus a chest scan or HRCT test is must. 

Symptoms of the White Fungus

Most of the symptoms of White fungus is similar to COVID-19🦠

• Respiratory complications
• Cough
• Chest Pain
• Breathlessness
• Swelling infection
• Diarrhea

How it spreads in body? 

According to AIIMS Dr. Professor Kaushal Verma, the white fungus begins from the tongue or private parts due to which, it makes the tongue white, it then spreads to other organs along with lungs, brain, and food pipes. 

Who is at higher risk? 

• It causes most damage to a person who has low immune threshold. 

• People suffering from conditions like diabetes, cancer, high sugar and other Comorbidities which require steroid usage. 

• Women and children have an additional risk of infection. 

Solution! 

Despite so many challenges we are facing simultaneously like covid, black fungus and now white fungus, our healthcare workers are the heroes who have kept our morals heigh despite so much things happening around. 

As it's name suggest, it is a fungal infection so yes it is a curable thing. It can be treated well with antifungal medication. The early detection of case will always be a plus point.
