. Red blood cells are the key of life.They are constantly traveling through your body , delivering oxygen and removing waste . If they didn't do their job , you would slowly die.
RBCs contain a protein called hemoglobin. Hemoglobin contain iron which makes it an excellent vehicle for transporting oxygen and carbon dioxide.
Internal structure
RBCs are considered cell, they lack a nucleus , nuclear DNA . RBCs therefore can't divide or replicate like other cells of the body . They also lack the components to express genes and synthesize protein .

How RBC works?
The red blood cell develop in bone marrow in several stages from a heamocytoblast , a multi potential cell in the mesenchyme , it becomes an erthroblast , during two to five days of development , the erthroblast gradually fills with hemoglobin and its nucleus and mitochondria disappear . In late stage the cell is called a reticulocyte , which ultimately becomes a fully mature red cells . The average red cells in hunan lives 100-120 days .
The function of red blood cell and its hemoglobin is to carry oxygen from lungs or gills to all the body tissue and to carry carbon dioxide , a waste product of metabolism to the lungs , where it is excreted .
Why blood color is red ?
The blood's red color is due to the spectral properties of the hemic iron ions in hemoglobin . Each hemoglobin molecules carries four heme group: hemoglobin constitutes about a third of the total cell volume .
In turn , our blood is red because of the millions of red blood cells that it contains.
Deficiency of RBCs in a body
Deficiency of RBCs causes anemia . Anemia is a condition which yiu lack enough healthy RBCs to carry adequate oxygen to our body tissue .
Having anemia can make you feel tired and weak . There are many forms of anemia , each with its own cause . Anemia can be temporary or long term and it can range from mild to severe .

Normal red blood cell counts for men - 4.7 to 6.1 million red blood cell per microliter of blood .
For women - 4.2 to 5.4 million red
blood cell per microliter of blood.
For children - 4.0 to 5.5 million red blood cell per microliter of blood .
You can increase your red blood cell count by eating spinach , green pea , carrot , water melon , raisins , red meat , beans and many green vegetables.
